Pilotcenter.net News reports that the aviation scene in Greece is off to a flying start in 2025 with both of the country's largest airlines achieving impressive results. As the summer season approaches, Aegean Airlines and SKY Express are gearing up for increased visitor numbers and further expansion.

Aegean Airlines, based in Athens and known as the de facto national carrier of Greece, saw a notable 8.4% increase in passenger numbers, carrying 3.1 million travelers in the first quarter of the year. The airline's international routes saw a particularly strong performance with an 11.7% increase in passengers compared to the same period in 2024. With a fleet of 66 Airbus aircraft and new orders in the pipeline, Aegean Airlines is poised for growth in 2025.

Looking ahead, Aegean Airlines plans to increase its seating capacity to 21.5 million by the end of the year, with expanded international routes to destinations like Istanbul, Erbil, and Rome. The airline is also focusing on enhancing domestic connections, especially from popular Greek islands like Heraklion and Rhodes.

SKY Express, the other major carrier in Greece, also reported robust results for the first quarter of 2025, with a 10% increase in passenger traffic and 8.5% growth in revenues. The airline's international network has seen significant expansion, adding new routes and increasing the number of flights to cater to growing demand.

With a modern fleet of jet aircraft and turboprops, SKY Express is dedicated to further international growth, aiming to introduce more routes throughout the year. The airline's commitment to enhancing its international network has already shown results, with a substantial increase in passenger traffic on international services in early 2025.

As both Aegean Airlines and SKY Express continue to expand their route networks and fleet sizes, the future looks bright for the Greek aviation industry. With summer tourism expected to soar in 2025, these airlines are well-positioned to capitalize on the increasing travel demand to and from Greece.
