Air Canada has cemented its commitment to the Airbus A220-300 aircraft, marking their third order with the manufacturer for these single-aisle jets. This recent development comes five years after they initially diversified their fleet with the A220 series, showcasing their satisfaction with its performance over the years. Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Air Canada, John Di Bert, expressed their contentment with the A220, highlighting its role in enabling the airline to expand its routes and enhance service quality.

Speaking on the latest order, Di Bert stated, “The A220 has delivered on its promises for Air Canada in its five years in service. It has allowed us to open new routes and better serve existing routes with an aircraft that has the right economics to support our profitable growth strategy. It is also very popular with customers.” With the new order for five A220-300s, manufactured right in Quebec near their Montreal headquarters, Air Canada’s total tally of A220 aircraft on order reaches an impressive 65.

The partnership between Air Canada and Airbus continues to grow, with Airbus Executive Vice President Sales Commercial Aircraft, Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, emphasizing the efficiency and comfort that the A220 offers. This latest agreement underscores Air Canada’s confidence in the model, representing their ongoing efforts in fleet modernization.

The A220's production in Mirabel, Quebec, following Airbus's acquisition of the program from Bombardier, further solidifies its connection to Canadian aerospace. With a diverse fleet that includes various Airbus models, including the A320 and A330 families, Air Canada's expansion includes forthcoming deliveries of 26 A321XLRs.

This strategic move reflects Air Canada's dedication to enhancing its fleet capabilities and passenger experience, showcasing a forward-looking approach to aviation technology. By committing to the A220 series, the airline underscores its commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction in the competitive aviation market.
