Pilotcenter.net News has reported that Air France-KLM has shown interest in making a significant move within the aviation industry by considering an investment in Air Europa. The Spanish carrier, owned predominantly by Globalia, has sparked discussions regarding a potential 20% stake acquisition from the French-Dutch multinational airline. Globalia acknowledged the interest during recent talks, clarifying that nothing has been finalized yet.

Negotiations between Globalia and Air France-KLM have been ongoing for some time now, as reported by el Economista. The proposed 20% investment in Air Europa would not trigger regulatory concerns at the European Union level due to its relatively low percentage. Interestingly, this move follows International Airlines Group's (IAG) decision to step back from acquiring Air Europa, choosing instead to retain its existing 20% ownership in the airline.

In a public statement back in August 2024, IAG cited the complex regulatory landscape as a determining factor in their strategic shift. It's worth noting that IAG had initially paid €100 million ($105 million) for their 20% share in Air Europa back in 2022. Should Air France-KLM proceed with a similar deal, the financial terms are expected to reflect the significant growth and evolution that Air Europa has undergone in the past few years.
