Air India Express, the low-cost subsidiary carrier of Air India, is soaring to new heights as it welcomes its 100th aircraft to the fleet with the recent addition of a Boeing 737 MAX 8. The 18-year-old airline made the exciting announcement on March 10, 2025, as the team gathered for a memorable photoshoot with the new aircraft, VT-BWI, adorned with Karnataka’s Chittara tail art. The occasion was marked with jubilation as flags waved and cheers filled the air to celebrate this significant milestone.“This marks a new chapter in our remarkable journey,” expressed Air India Express, highlighting the airline’s rapid growth since its integration and relaunch, now offering connections to 54 destinations spanning across India, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia. Boasting over 500 daily flights by the end of the month, the airline is dedicated to uniting people, places, and cultures like never before. In a strategic move, Tata’s acquisition of a 100% stake in AirAsia India paved the way for the merger with Air India Express, forming a unified low-cost carrier in India.

Under its new direction, Air India Express has introduced a fresh branding and livery style, symbolizing a transformation in line with its expansion. Managing Director Aloke Singh expressed, “The 100th aircraft induction signifies a pivotal moment in the growth and evolution of Air India Express. In just over three years post-privatization, we have witnessed immense progress by integrating LCC airlines, expanding our network, and fortifying our presence in key markets across India.” With a strong focus on tier 2 and tier 3 cities, the airline plays a crucial role in shaping India’s aviation landscape.

The new Boeing 737 MAX 8, which previously operated with China Eastern Yunnan Airlines, commenced its service under Air India Express in March 2025, connecting passengers between various Indian airports. According to reports, the airline’s current fleet includes 12 A320neos, 24 A320ceos, 26 Boeing 737s, and 38 737-8s, solidifying its position in the competitive aviation market. This milestone reflects Air India Express’ commitment to innovation, growth, and excellence in the skies.
