Pilotcenter.net News has reported that AirAsia Aviation Group is set to receive 14 new aircraft in 2025 to accommodate the anticipated increase in passenger traffic within the ASEAN region. Out of these 14 aircraft, 10 will be leased while the remaining four will be directly acquired from Airbus. The International Air Transport Association (IATA) predicts a 7.9% growth in passenger numbers in the Asia Pacific region for the year 2025, attributing this surge to economic rebound, competitive pricing, and tourism promotions spearheaded by governments.
With the aviation industry in the region poised for rapid expansion, the low-cost carrier is eyeing 70 million passengers for FY2025, marking an 11% year-on-year rise. Bo Lingam, Group CEO of AirAsia Aviation Group, expressed optimism about the future prospects of the airline, stating, “We’ve had a great start to 2025, and we are excited as AirAsia’s future growth is fully secured, with the next 56 aircraft already financed.” Lingam emphasized that the objective is not solely about fleet expansion but also about enhancing connectivity and providing affordable travel solutions to customers.
Airbus, in partnership with AirAsia, plans to introduce their Airbus A321XLR and A321LR aircraft to revolutionize low-cost regional and long-haul travel. Additionally, the Airbus A330 fleet will be tailored for long-haul routes, aligning with AirAsia’s vision of optimizing costs and fuel efficiency to ensure sustainable growth. This strategic expansion of the airline's fleet is aimed at enhancing operational efficiency, introducing new routes, and offering competitive pricing to passengers. With this development, AirAsia anticipates boosting connectivity, improving customer service, and setting new benchmarks for value-driven air travel experiences.
