Pilotcenter.net News has recently announced a groundbreaking partnership between AirAsia Philippines and the Philippine Department of Tourism that aims to transform the Philippines into a premier halal and Muslim-friendly destination. This pioneering move comes as the Department of Tourism officially recognizes AirAsia Philippines as the first airline in the country to offer Halal-certified meal options on all its domestic and international flights. With approximately 15 million Muslims residing in the predominantly Catholic Philippines, this initiative showcases a commitment to travel inclusivity for all.
AirAsia Philippines CEO, Ricky Isla, expressed the airline’s dedication to breaking barriers and enhancing services for Muslim travelers, stating, “We are very bullish. We will make this partnership stronger, bigger, and more successful.” Recognizing the pivotal role of airlines in promoting Halal options, Isla emphasized the importance of creating a welcoming environment for all visitors to the Philippines.
Scheduled for launch on January 16, 2025, AirAsia Philippines will introduce halal-friendly in-flight meal options, further solidifying the nation's appeal as a Muslim-friendly tourism destination. Philippine Tourism Secretary, Christina Garcia Frasco, highlighted the significance of this collaboration in enhancing the travel experience for Muslim tourists. She added, “We anticipate that the Santan menu will add even more dishes that are inclusive to our communities in the country bringing more delight to our travelers.”
The continuous growth of the global Muslim travel market is evident, with a projected 230 million international arrivals by 2028 and an expected expenditure of $225 billion. Factors contributing to a Muslim-friendly destination go beyond culinary offerings and include segregated facilities, modest attire for hospitality staff, and a prohibition on gambling and alcohol.
The commitment of AirAsia Philippines and the Philippine Department of Tourism to cater to the needs of Muslim travelers reflects a shared vision for an inclusive and globally competitive tourism industry in the Philippines. This collaborative effort sets a new standard for travel inclusivity and cultural diversity, ensuring that all visitors feel welcomed and valued when exploring the beauty of the Philippines.
