Latvian-based airline airBaltic recently marked a significant milestone with the arrival of its 50th Airbus A220-300 aircraft at Riga Airport (RIX). The special event, held on February 13, 2025, was attended by approximately 200 guests, including company representatives, airport staff, partners, media personnel, and government officials from Latvia and Canada.

The momentous occasion was captured on video as the A220-300 made a memorable low-pass landing at Riga. The arrival of the 50th Airbus A220-300 was a moment of immense pride for airBaltic, with CEO Martin Gauss reflecting on how the aircraft has revolutionized their operations since becoming the global launch operator eight years ago.

Gauss expressed his excitement for reaching this major milestone, as it signifies the completion of airBaltic's initial order and brings them halfway towards their goal of a fleet comprising 100 of these cutting-edge aircraft by 2030. The significance of this 50th aircraft was underscored by a bespoke artistic livery inspired by the Latvian flag, incorporating symbolic elements representing the Baltic States.

The captivating design features a young woman flying amidst the clouds, adorned with a traditional wreath and proudly carrying the Latvian flag. Symbolic elements such as a ladybug, swallow, and stork further highlight the heritage of the Baltic region. The intricate painting of this unique livery took 18 days to complete, utilizing 21 colors and a stencil overlay technique for the first time by the Airbus A220 paintshop teams in Mirabel, Canada.

Kaspars Briškens, Minister of Transport of the Republic of Latvia, emphasized the significance of this aircraft's Baltic-themed livery in symbolizing the region's ambition, connectivity, and the strength of its national carrier. The new A220-300 is scheduled to join airBaltic's fleet later in February 2025, boasting state-of-the-art features and modern design suitable for carrying 100 to 150 passengers on flights of up to 3,600 nautical miles (6,700 kilometers).
