Pilotcenter.net News recently reported on a remarkable ceremony held in Mirabel, Canada, where representatives from airBaltic and Airbus came together for a special event. The occasion marked the official unveiling of airBaltic's 50th A220-300 aircraft, representing a significant milestone in their longstanding partnership with Airbus.

Having been the launch customer of the Airbus A220-300 eight years prior, the celebration held great significance for both airBaltic and Airbus. The unveiling took place on February 4, 2025, revealing a stunning new livery that was the result of a public design competition initiated by airBaltic in 2024. The design featured an artistic interpretation of the Latvian flag, showcasing a girl gracefully soaring through the clouds with flowing hair adorned by a traditional wreath. Elements representing all three Baltic states - Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia - such as a ladybug, a swallow, and a stork, added a touch of creativity to the livery.

Martin Gauss, the President and CEO of airBaltic, expressed his pride in reaching this milestone, highlighting the aircraft's significance as it marked the completion of their initial order and brought them closer to their goal of expanding their fleet to operate 100 A220-300s by 2030. Gauss emphasized the strong partnership between airBaltic and Airbus, stating, "We are glad to be here with our long-standing partner Airbus and stakeholders to celebrate the reveal of our special milestone aircraft."

From 840 design entries, airBaltic narrowed down the options to three, which were then voted on by loyalty program members to determine the final livery. The selected design was further refined by airBaltic to ensure it met the technical requirements of the aircraft. BenoƮt Schultz, CEO of Airbus Canada, commended airBaltic's commitment as a long-standing customer, stating, "We are honoured to continue being the partner of choice of airBaltic as they expand their A220 fleet."

The special A220-300, featuring the unique livery, is scheduled to join airBaltic's fleet later in February 2025, symbolizing another step in the airline's growth and commitment to providing exceptional service to its passengers.
