Latvian-based airline airBaltic has recently revealed the unfortunate news of canceling a significant number of flights for the upcoming summer season of 2025. The decision to cancel 4,670 flights from all its bases stems from unexpected delays and prolonged engine maintenance issues with its supplier, Pratt & Whitney, as reported in a statement released on January 2, 2025. This unforeseen circumstance has specifically affected the operational capabilities of airBaltic's Airbus A220-300 fleet, leading to the grounding of several aircraft due to an engine shortage that stretches into the new year.

As a consequence, airBaltic has had to make the tough call to cancel 19 routes and reduce frequencies on 21 others across its bases, impacting approximately 67,160 passengers. Despite these challenges, the airline remains committed to its mission of connecting travelers to over 70 destinations in Europe and beyond, highlighting that they are not alone in facing global supply chain issues and maintenance constraints beyond their control.
