In a recent turn of events on June 13, 2025, major airlines have made the decision to cancel flights over Israel, Iran, Iraq, and Jordan in response to Israel's extensive airstrikes conducted on 100 military and nuclear sites within Iran. As a result of the closures of airspace in these countries, as shown by real-time flight tracking website Flightradar24, there is a noticeable absence of air traffic over the affected regions.

The impact of these cancellations is significant, particularly in the airspace above Eastern Iraq, near the Iranian border, which serves as a crucial air corridor connecting Europe and the Gulf, with numerous routes linking Asia to Europe. Consequently, airlines such as Emirates, the largest carrier in the Middle East, have taken the precautionary measure of canceling flights that traverse through these regions. Emirates has officially communicated that their flights to and from Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, and Iran will be affected, resulting in the cancellation of several flights on specific dates in June 2025.

Adding to the list of airlines affected by the situation, EL AL, Israel's flag carrier, along with its subsidiary Sun D’Or International Airlines, have suspended all flights following the closure of Israeli airspace. In a statement released by EL AL, the airline indicates that flights up to June 30, 2025, have been closed for new bookings until further notice, with a primary focus on assisting impacted passengers.

Alongside these announcements, Air India has taken measures to cancel 16 flights in Iranian airspace as a precautionary step to ensure passenger safety amidst the rising tensions in the region. Similarly, Qatar Airways has temporarily halted flights to Iran, Iraq, and Syria, specifying the affected airports and temporary suspension period to manage the situation effectively.

Furthermore, ITA Airways shared that Lufthansa Group airlines have opted to suspend flights to and from Tel Aviv until July 31 due to the prevailing circumstances. This decision underscores the airlines' commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of passengers amidst the evolving developments concerning the affected airspace.

As airlines navigate these challenging circumstances, the disruptions in flight schedules serve as a reminder of the complexities involved in ensuring safe and secure aviation operations amidst regional tensions and unforeseen events. Stay tuned for updates on the evolving situation and its impact on air travel in the affected regions.
