The aviation community is in mourning following the devastating American Airlines plane crash that occurred overnight near Washington DC. Pilotcenter.net News reports that many prominent international airlines have expressed their condolences after a PSA Airlines Bombardier CRJ-700, operating as American Eagle Flight #AA5342, collided with a US Army Black Hawk helicopter during its final approach to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.

The tragic incident took place shortly before 21:00 as the aircraft was arriving from Wichita, Kansas. The Bombardier was carrying 60 passengers and four crew members, while the Black Hawk helicopter had three military personnel on board at the time of impact.
