Pilotcenter.net News reported on April 28, 2025, that ANA made an exciting announcement regarding their plan to implement the fuel-saving AeroSHARK riblet technology on their fleet of Boeing 777-300ER passenger aircraft. This innovative technology, developed by Lufthansa Technik and BASF, is known for its ability to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions significantly.

Since September 2024, ANA has been utilizing the AeroSHARK riblet film on one of their Boeing 777 cargo freighters, experiencing a notable 1% reduction in consumption and emissions. The AeroSHARK film, inspired by the skin of sharks, optimizes airflow, leading to substantial fuel savings. Lufthansa Technik estimates that if this technology were applied to the global fleet of long-haul aircraft, it could save nearly five million tons of kerosene annually.

Executive Vice President of Engineering and Maintenance Center at ANA, Kohei Tsuji, expressed the airline's dedication to reducing their carbon footprint and enhancing operational efficiency through the adoption of AeroSHARK technology. Tsuji emphasized that this innovation is a crucial step towards a more sustainable future for ANA and the aviation industry as a whole.

ANA is committed to extending the use of AeroSHARK coating technology to more aircraft of the same type, as part of their environmental objectives in the medium to long term. This showcases the airline's forward-thinking approach in striving towards a greener future in aviation.
