According to the latest data from Asia Pacific airlines, the region's international air passenger and cargo markets continue to surge, driven by strong consumer and business demand. The figures released by the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA) highlight a substantial 19.8% increase in international passengers, with a total of 31 million travelers in November 2024 compared to the same period in 2023. The average international passenger load factor also experienced a significant increase of 2.7 percentage points to reach 82.0%, attributed to a 17.6% growth in available seat capacity.

In the air cargo segment, the rise in shipment volumes was fueled by consistent e-commerce demand and businesses front-loading export orders in anticipation of US tariff increases. International air cargo demand, measured in freight tonne kilometers (FTK), witnessed a 10.5% year-on-year increase, slightly surpassing a 10.0% growth in offered freight capacity. Consequently, the average international freight load factor saw a slight uptick to 62.3% for the month.

Subhas Menon, the Director General of AAPA, highlighted the robust performance of Asia Pacific airlines in international travel markets, noting the sector's full recovery to pre-pandemic levels. Menon also emphasized the healthy growth in air cargo markets, attributing it to increased demand during the year-end holiday season and operational challenges in maritime shipping.

Looking ahead, Menon expressed optimism for a positive conclusion to 2024 for both passenger and cargo markets. However, he acknowledged the uncertainties stemming from the global economy and supply chain disruptions, posing challenges for the region's carriers. Despite these challenges, Asia Pacific airlines are equipped to navigate through them while upholding the highest safety and service standards.

Based on the current trends, the future looks promising for Asia Pacific airlines, and they are prepared to face obstacles while continuing to deliver top-notch service to travelers and cargo alike.
