Exciting news in the world of aviation! Arajet, the prominent flag carrier of the Dominican Republic, is set to broaden its reach across the U.S. with the announcement of direct flights from Santo Domingo to New York City. Commencing operations on June 16, 2025, Arajet will link its hub at Santo Domingo-Las Américas Airport to Newark-Liberty International Airport utilizing its modern fleet of Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft.
This new route has been strategically planned to serve as a vital link between the Dominican Republic and the New York metropolitan area, which boasts the largest Dominican diaspora community outside of the homeland. Covering a distance of 1,557 miles (2,492km), well within the Boeing 737 MAX 8's range, travelers can expect a convenient and seamless journey between these two vibrant destinations.
During a special announcement event at the Gregorio Luperón school in Washington Heights, New Jersey, attended by esteemed guests including New York Congressman Adriano Espaillat and Dominican consuls Jesús Vázquez and José Santana, Arajet's CEO, Victor Pacheco, expressed enthusiasm about this new venture. “Arajet is dedicated to providing accessible and cost-effective air travel for both the Dominican community and American tourists. New York represents a crucial market in enhancing our presence in the United States,” mentioned Pacheco.
To enhance the airline's new route offerings, Arajet will be promoting various onward connection options through its Santo Domingo hub, bridging the Caribbean with cities across Central and South America, including Toronto, Montreal, and Miami in North America.
In preparation for this expansion, Arajet recently secured a leasing agreement with BOC Aviation for five additional Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, equipped with CFM LEAP-1B engines. These additional aircraft are expected to join the airline's fleet in 2026 and 2027, solidifying Arajet's position as a carrier of choice for U.S. travelers seeking vacation getaways or visiting loved ones.
