Exciting news from Avelo Airlines! The low-cost carrier has set its sights on expansion with the establishment of a brand new base at Wilmington International Airport (ILM) in North Carolina. This development brings with it seven fresh nonstop routes for Avelo's fleet of 20 Boeing 737s. This latest base marks the airline's eighth operational hub, adding to its existing network of 55 cities across 23 states, Puerto Rico, and four international hotspots which include the Bahamas, Jamaica, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic.
CEO and Founder of Avelo Airlines, Andrew Levy, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "We continue to fulfill our purpose to Inspire Travel with the opening of Avelo’s Wilmington base and growing our network in these popular markets. These new routes enable Avelo to significantly expand the affordable, convenient, and reliable air service our customers value." The strategic move demonstrates Avelo's commitment to enhancing travel experiences as the airline approaches its fourth anniversary.
From Wilmington International Airport, Avelo will be linking passengers to key domestic destinations including Boston-Manchester Airport (MHT) in New Hampshire, Nashville, and Rochester, New York. These additions join the lineup of Avelo's other operating bases such as Los Angeles’ Hollywood-Burbank Airport (BUR), Tweed-New Haven Airport in Connecticut, and the Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU), among others.
Since its inaugural flight on April 28, 2021, Avelo has soared to impressive heights, serving more than 6.6 million travelers on over 53,000 flights. The airline's strategic approach of catering to underserved communities with smaller, user-friendly airports has been a key factor in its success. This unique approach ensures a smoother and more enjoyable travel experience for customers.
In a bid to further solidify its presence, Avelo has also revealed plans to introduce nonstop services between Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport (ORD) and Tweed-New Haven Airport (HVN) in Connecticut starting May 15, 2025. Additionally, a recent agreement with the US Department of Homeland Security's Immigration Control and Enforcement Agency will see Avelo facilitating deportation flights out of Mesa Gateway Airport (AZA) in Arizona. These dedicated flights, known as 'ICE Air,' will be carried out by specially selected crews, separate from Avelo's regular passenger services.
Avelo's innovative approach to air travel continues to make waves in the industry, providing travelers with enhanced options and accessibility to a wide array of destinations. Stay tuned for more exciting developments from this dynamic airline!
