Avianca, Colombia's largest airline, has recently sealed a deal with BOC Aviation, a prominent lessor based in Singapore, to bring nine cutting-edge Airbus A320neo aircraft into its fleet. The agreement, confirmed by BOC Aviation on June 5, 2026, involves the acquisition of new aircraft from Airbus, with deliveries slated to kick off in 2027.
Avianca, a key player within the ABRA Group, has committed to long-term leases for these A320neo additions, aiming to enhance its existing fleet. Notably, Avianca is eagerly anticipating the arrival of 78 Airbus A320neo jets from previous accords, positioning itself as a frontrunner in fleet modernization efforts.
In a statement underscoring the significance of this collaboration, Francisco Raddatz, Chief Procurement Officer at ABRA Group, expressed, "We are pleased to reaffirm our strategic relationship with BOC Aviation through this agreement. This transaction supports our fleet renewal strategy and our commitment to operating modern, fuel-efficient aircraft."
BOC Aviation, in a move signaling its proactive growth strategy, had previously ordered 70 additional A320neo family aircraft from Airbus in March 2025. Steven Townend, CEO of BOC Aviation, highlighted the mutual enthusiasm, stating, "We are pleased to be working again with Avianca as it expands its network in the rapidly growing Latin American markets. These deliveries position us well for incremental future growth as we continue to expand our industry-leading latest generation fleet."
Excitingly, the partnership between BOC Aviation and Airbus extends beyond Avianca, as evidenced by a separate agreement inked on May 29, 2025. This time, BOC Aviation will secure nine A320neo family aircraft for Gulf Air, underscoring the shared commitment to fostering innovation and efficiency across the aviation sector.
As Avianca primes its fleet for the future and BOC Aviation embarks on further expansion initiatives, this collaboration sets a promising trajectory for enhancing air travel experiences and driving sustainable growth within the industry.
