Bangkok Airways Explores Fleet Renewal Options with Boeing, Airbus, and Embraer
In an effort to enhance its aircraft fleet over the next four to five years, regional Thai operator Bangkok Airways is currently exploring options with major aircraft manufacturers Boeing, Airbus, and Embraer. In a recent report by pilotcenter.net News on March 18, 2025, Bangkok Airways CEO Puttipong Prasarttong-Osoth revealed the airline's plans to potentially acquire up to 30 narrowbody aircraft.
During an interview with pilotcenter.net News, Prasarttong-Osoth emphasized the importance of discussing possibilities with Boeing, Airbus, and Embraer for at least 20 new aircraft initially, with potential for an additional 10 aircraft in the future. This strategic move forms part of Bangkok Airways' initiative to modernize its current fleet while accommodating the rising influx of tourists to Thailand.
Prasarttong-Osoth highlighted the necessity for growth, expressing, "We need to grow, and a new aircraft fleet would be mandatory." Currently, Bangkok Airways boasts a fleet of 25 aircraft, comprising 12 Airbus A319-100s and 10 ATR 72-600s. Operating primarily from its main hub at Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK), the airline offers flights between Bangkok and popular tourist destinations like Samui, Phuket, and Chiang Mai within Thailand.
Furthermore, Bangkok Airways serves international tourist hotspots such as Siem Reap in Cambodia, Da Nang in Vietnam, and Hong Kong. As the airline strategizes its fleet renewal goals, it is also contemplating leasing additional aircraft to meet its operational needs effectively.
