Cathay Pacific, together with its sister airline, HK Express, has unveiled plans for a significant increase in flight frequencies to 20 destinations within mainland China, reflecting the growing demand for air travel between Hong Kong and the mainland. The airlines will collectively offer approximately 300 flights per week, representing a substantial 40% boost compared to the summer peak of 2024. This expansion, announced by the Cathay Group on March 27, 2025, focuses on enhancing connectivity to strategic regions in China, particularly the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei and Yangtze River Delta areas.

Emphasizing their commitment to meeting the needs of passengers, Cathay Pacific and HK Express will ramp up services on key routes from Hong Kong to cater to both business and leisure travelers. For instance, Hong Kong will see an increase in daily flights to Beijing, with a total of 56 weekly flights splitting between Beijing Capital and Daxing International Airports. Similarly, the number of flights to Shanghai will rise to 67 flights per week, serving Pudong and Hongqiao Airports.

The airlines are also expanding services to other prominent cities like Zhengzhou, Ningbo, Haikou, and Chongqing, transitioning from a four-times-weekly schedule to daily flights. Passengers can also expect enhanced flight frequencies to Hangzhou, Nanjing, Wenzhou, and Wuhan. Furthermore, starting April 28, 2025, Cathay Pacific will introduce direct flights between Hong Kong and Urumqi, further enriching their network.

Expressing her enthusiasm for the upcoming expansion, Lavinia Lau, Cathay's Chief Customer and Commercial Officer, shared, “We are thrilled to unveil our expanded flight schedule for the Chinese Mainland this summer, offering services to 20 destinations with increased frequencies on popular routes. Our goal is to provide a seamless travel experience for our customers, strengthening our role as a leading aviation hub in the region.”

In addition to boosting connectivity within mainland China, the Cathay Group will extend its global reach by adding flights to 13 new destinations in 2025, including Hyderabad, Dallas, Rome, Munich, and Brussels by Cathay Pacific, and Sendai, Nha Trang, Ishigaki, Komatsu, Cheongju, Daegu, and Miyako-Shimojishima by HK Express. With more than 100 destinations slated for passenger services this year, the Cathay Group is poised to solidify its position as a premier international airline network.

HK Express, known for its all-Airbus fleet comprising 41 aircraft, will continue to expand its operations to fulfill the increasing travel demands in the region. The carrier's commitment to growth is evident with additional orders for the A320neo family aircraft, underlining its dedication to providing exceptional travel experiences for passengers flying to, from, and via Hong Kong.
