Cathay Pacific has exciting news for travel enthusiasts as they announce the launch of new direct flights connecting Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) with Urumqi Diwopu International Airport (URC) in China's northwestern region. This new route, to be operated four times a week utilizing the airline's trusted Airbus A330-300 aircraft, is scheduled to take off on April 28, 2025, marking Urumqi as Cathay Pacific's 20th destination within mainland China.
Expressing enthusiasm about this development, Cathay's Chief Customer and Commercial Officer, Lavinia Lau, highlighted the significance of this new route by stating, "Urumqi is an exciting new addition to our network, directly connecting our home city with an important Belt and Road hub in Northwestern China." Lau proudly emphasized Cathay Pacific's deep-rooted connection with Hong Kong and China, stating their commitment to enhancing travel options for their customers between Hong Kong, mainland China, and other global destinations.
Looking ahead, Lau shared that Urumqi is just one of eleven new destinations the Cathay Group has announced for 2025, with plans to expand to 100 destinations worldwide by the year's end. In addition to Urumqi, travelers can anticipate more convenient travel options from Hong Kong this year. HK Express, a low-cost carrier under Cathay Pacific's umbrella, has already commenced services to Japan's Sendai Airport (SDJ) and is gearing up to introduce direct flights to Nha Trang's Cam Ranh International Airport (CXR), Komatsu Airport (KMQ), New Ishigaki Airport (ISG), and Miyako Shimojishima (SHI) in the coming months.
