easyJet introduces new longest flight from London Gatwick to Sal Island in Cape Verde

easyJet has recently unveiled its lengthiest flight to date, linking London Gatwick with Sal, an enchanting island in Cape Verde. The announcement was made on March 31, 2025, as the airline expands its network with this exciting new destination located off the west coast of Africa. The new route, spanning an impressive 2,700 miles (4,345 kilometers), will clock in at approximately five hours and 50 minutes each way, surpassing easyJet’s previous longest journey from Manchester to Hurghada in Egypt, covering 2,580 miles (4,152 kilometers).

Ali Gayward, easyJet’s UK Country Manager, expressed, “We know our customers are always seeking new and thrilling destinations to explore, and our flights to Sal in Cape Verde offer the perfect blend of relaxation and adventure.” Flights between London Gatwick Airport and Amílcar Cabral International Airport in Sal will operate three times a week with an A320neo aircraft on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays throughout the year. Passengers were pleasantly surprised with special giveaways at the boarding gate, including a generous goodie bag filled with travel essentials like a travel adaptor and a travel bag, courtesy of easyJet and a package holiday company.

The inaugural sub-Saharan flight took off amidst a warm welcome ceremony featuring local musicians upon arrival in Sal. London Gatwick's Airline Relations Manager, Jennifer Newman, expressed the airport's delight in welcoming this new route to Cape Verde. With easyJet being London Gatwick's prominent airline, the carrier reached a significant milestone in 2024 by serving 250 million passengers to and from the airport, with its initial Gatwick flight taking off to Geneva on December 16, 1999, before establishing a base there in 2002.

Currently, easyJet from London Gatwick connects to various European cities like Paris and Amsterdam, along with an array of leisure destinations including Spain, Italy, Tunisia, Turkey, and Egypt. The introduction of the London Gatwick-Sal route adds an exciting new dimension to easyJet's extensive network, providing travelers with unparalleled opportunities to explore and discover captivating destinations.
