EasyJet has exciting news for travelers in Italy as they announce plans to open new bases in Milan and Rome starting early 2025. This expansion comes as a strategic move following the European Commission's approval of Lufthansa Group's acquisition of ITA Airways, making easyJet the first airline to seize the opportunity presented by the EC's remedy proposals.

The airline will station five aircraft at Milan-Linate Airport and three at Rome-Fiumicino Airport, creating approximately 300 job opportunities at these new bases. By deepening its presence in the Italian market, easyJet aims to enhance the travel experience for passengers with a broader selection of destinations and competitive fares in and out of these key Italian cities.

With a total of 38 aircraft operating from four bases across Italy, including Milan-Malpensa, Rome-Fiumicino, and Naples, easyJet plans to serve 20 Italian airports and transport over 20 million customers annually. The move aligns with the EC's objective to foster competition in Italy, ultimately benefiting consumers by increasing travel options and affordability.

Kentron Jarvis, the CFO and incoming CEO of easyJet, expressed enthusiasm about becoming the short-haul remedy provider in Milan and Rome, highlighting the airline's commitment to offering enhanced services and value to Italian travelers. Lorenzo Lagorio, Country Manager Italy at easyJet, emphasized the airline's proud history of facilitating air travel for over 210 million passengers in Italy since 1998.

The expansion into Milan and Rome signifies easyJet's dedication to the Italian market, promising growth, job opportunities, and an even wider range of choices for passengers. By investing in these new bases, easyJet aims to continue democratizing air travel in Italy and beyond, thanks to the unwavering support of their team. The airline looks forward to welcoming both passengers and crew to their new hubs in Linate and Fiumicino, ushering in a new chapter of convenience and accessibility for travelers across Europe.
