Exciting news in the aviation world as Swiss leisure carrier Edelweiss, a part of the prestigious Lufthansa Group, has welcomed its very first Airbus A350-900 aircraft to its fleet. The aircraft, with registration HB-IHF, was recently retrieved by an Edelweiss crew from Tarbes-Lourdes-Pyrénées Airport, where it had been stored since 2020. Touching down at the airline's main base in Zürich-Kloten Airport on March 13, 2025, at 15:11 local time, this sleek new addition is set to begin regular service on April 1, 2025.

Initially, Edelweiss plans to introduce the Airbus A350-900 on familiarization flights across its short and medium-haul network. However, eager travelers can look forward to its debut on the commercial long-haul route between Zürich and Las Vegas starting in May 2025. This aircraft is just the first of six, all formerly operated by LATAM Airlines, that will rejuvenate Edelweiss' aging A340-300 fleet.

Despite primarily focusing on charter and leisure markets, Edelweiss will continue to offer a high-quality travel experience with a three-class cabin layout that includes Business, Economy Max (its premium economy offering), and Economy. For now, the A350-900 will maintain the cabin configuration it inherited from LATAM Airlines, boasting a total of 339 seats: 30 in Business, 63 in Economy Max, and 246 in Economy class. However, Edelweiss plans to customize the interior of these new aircraft down the line to align with its unique brand.

Excitingly, Edelweiss' sister company SWISS, also under the Lufthansa Group umbrella, will be receiving its inaugural A350-900 later this year, with an anticipated reveal date around the summer season. In a recent announcement, SWISS teased a special livery named "SWISS Wanderlust" for this first A350-900, celebrating Switzerland's rich heritage through intricate design elements.

This air fleet expansion marks an ambitious and promising chapter for Edelweiss and SWISS, bringing cutting-edge aircraft technology and a touch of Swiss inspiration to the skies. Keep an eye out for these impressive A350-900 planes as they soar to new heights of travel excellence.
