Etihad Airways has announced a massive investment of almost $1 billion into a refurbishment program that will see new cabin interiors installed in its older Boeing 777 and 787 Dreamliner aircraft fleet. This initiative is part of a broader plan by the airline to invest $7 billion across its operations by 2030, aiming for continued growth and enhanced customer experience.

Speaking with The National, Etihad Airways CEO Antonoaldo Neves highlighted the significance of this retrofit program, emphasizing the importance of maintaining consistency across the airline's widebody fleet. Neves disclosed that the retrofitting of older Boeing 777-300ERs and 787-8s is scheduled to commence in 2026 to address delays in new aircraft deliveries from manufacturers due to supply chain challenges.

With a fleet consisting of nine 777-300ERs, 33 787-9s, and 10 787-10s, alongside pending orders for additional aircraft, Etihad Airways is strategically planning for future growth. Neves mentioned the flexibility to convert 777X orders to more 787s as part of the carrier's fleet planning strategy, reflecting a cautious and adaptive approach to fleet expansion beyond 2030.

The airline's ambitious goals include tripling annual passenger numbers to 33 million and doubling the fleet size to 150 aircraft by 2030.
