SWISS Airline's exciting new venture has aviation enthusiasts buzzing as images of its first A350-900 aircraft have been unveiled for the world to see. The sleek aircraft, currently in the works at the Airbus final assembly line in Toulouse, France, is already sporting SWISS' iconic national flag emblem on its tail, giving a glimpse of what's to come.
The airline, a subsidiary of the Lufthansa Group, is set to receive a total of ten A350-900s between 2025 and 2031, marking a significant milestone in the expansion and modernization of its long-haul fleet. This fleet upgrade is part of a larger 25-aircraft order placed back in 2019, showcasing SWISS' commitment to staying at the forefront of aviation technology.
In a recent announcement, SWISS revealed plans to retire four aging A340-300s and replace them with five of the new A350s in 2022. Excitement mounted in December 2024 with news of an additional order for five more A350 aircraft, solidifying SWISS' dedication to enhancing its fleet with cutting-edge technology.
The A350-900s will offer passengers a luxurious four-class cabin layout, featuring three first-class suites, 45 business class seats, 38 premium economy seats, and 156 economy class seats. To prepare for the arrival of these state-of-the-art aircraft in early 2025, SWISS has commenced training its pilots on a new full-flight simulator in Opfikon, near Zurich. Over 50 pilots will undergo A350 training in 2025 alone, with plans to train an additional 90 in the following years as the airline continues to expand its A350 fleet.
With these exciting developments on the horizon, aviation enthusiasts and travelers alike can look forward to experiencing the comfort and innovation that SWISS' new A350-900 fleet will bring to the skies. Stay tuned for more updates as SWISS prepares to soar to new heights in the coming years.
