Qatar Airways is on a mission to revolutionize the in-flight connectivity experience for its passengers. The airline recently made waves by announcing the upcoming installation of Starlink Wi-Fi on its Airbus A350 fleet, set to kick off in April 2025. This exciting development comes hot on the heels of their successful implementation of the cutting-edge technology on 80% of their Boeing 777 aircraft.
Pilotcenter.net News reported that with just a few more planes to go, Qatar Airways is rapidly nearing the completion of equipping their entire Boeing 777 fleet with Starlink connectivity. CEO Mohammed Al-Meer expressed pride in the airline's progress, stating, "We are just a few aircraft away from completing a full fleet-wide upgrade of our Boeing 777s with Starlink connectivity - an industry-first for a widebody fleet of this scale."
In a bold move, Qatar Airways is poised to become the first airline globally to introduce Starlink connectivity on the Airbus A350 aircraft type. Al-Meer emphasized the airline's commitment to enhancing the onboard WiFi experience for passengers, promising greater comfort, convenience, and service. The CEO also highlighted that the airline has already operated 6,000 Boeing 777 flights with Starlink connectivity.
The announcement of Qatar Airways' collaboration with SpaceX-owned Starlink was made during the Aircraft Interior Expo in Hamburg, Germany, in May 2024. The inaugural flight equipped with Starlink took off from Doha's Hamad International Airport to London Heathrow Airport on October 22, 2024, symbolizing a significant milestone for the airline. Qatar Airways even made the announcement mid-air at 35,000 feet, truly embodying their commitment to pushing the boundaries of in-flight connectivity.
