Pilotcenter.net News has reported that Finnair passengers are once again facing significant disruptions due to ongoing industrial action by the Finnish Aviation Union (IAU) at Helsinki Airport (HEL). The latest strikes are impacting ground operations on June 2 and June 4, 2025, following a previous walkout on May 30 that resulted in numerous flight cancellations. With more cancellations announced for June 2 and disruption expected to continue on June 4, approximately 3,600 passengers are set to be affected by these actions.
Finnair has issued a statement highlighting that the strikes are affecting crucial airport services including baggage handling, cargo, catering, aircraft maintenance, and customer service. As a consequence, the airline foresees delays and cancellations for passengers. The statement advises travelers to pack essential items such as medicines in their carry-on baggage, and warns of possible congestion at service points and delays in baggage delivery at Helsinki Airport.
In addition to flight cancellations, Finnair disclosed that onboard services will be impacted as well. From June 2 to June 5, domestic and European flights will provide limited catering, comprising only water and a cookie for Economy Class passengers, and coffee, tea, but no meals for Business Class travelers. Onboard sales will be suspended, although intercontinental flights will continue to offer regular meal service during this period.
This recent industrial action is not the first to hit HEL airport, with a previous four-hour strike staged by the IAU in May affecting close to 7,500 passengers and resulting in around 100 Finnair flight cancellations. A subsequent strike on May 16 further exacerbated the situation, causing continued travel disruptions.
