Alaska Airlines flight attendants, represented by the Association of Flight Attendants (AFA), have embraced a new three-year contract, with more than 90% of them participating in the vote and a resounding 95% approval rate. The new agreement, effective from March 2, 2025, includes various enhancements that underscore Alaska Airlines' commitment to its employees' development and well-being.
CEO Ben Minicucci expressed his enthusiasm for the deal, stating, "We are focused on making Alaska Airlines a place for the best people in the business to grow their careers, and this new contract reflects that." The terms of the contract feature increased pay, a market rate adjustment, and work rules ensuring a reasonable 10-hour and 30-minute duty day, setting a new standard in the aviation industry. Additionally, improvements in scheduling and limits on insurance premiums have been introduced to enhance the overall working conditions for flight attendants.
This recent development marks the eighth ratified labor contract within the Alaska Air Group in the past three years, reflecting the company's ongoing efforts to bolster wages, enhance quality of life, and support long-term success. Jeff Peterson, AFA Alaska Master Executive Council (MEC) President, highlighted that this new agreement lays a solid groundwork for upcoming negotiations tied to the Joint Collective Bargaining Agreement concerning the merger of Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines.
Notably, despite the previous contract being amendable since December 2022, the successful ratification of the new agreement demonstrates a collaborative effort between Alaska Airlines and the flight attendants union to address key aspects crucial for a harmonious and mutually beneficial working relationship. This marks a significant step forward in ensuring the continued growth and prosperity of all parties involved.
