Spanish airline Iberia recently unveiled its ambitious new roadmap for growth, coined as the 'Flight Plan 2030'. This comprehensive strategy aims to propel the carrier into the future by achieving an annual profitability target of between 13.5% and 15%, enabling a substantial investment of €6 billion ($6.9bn) over the plan's lifespan.
President and CEO of Iberia, Marco Sansavini, expressed his optimism by stating, "Thanks to Iberia's transformation over the past decade and the dedication of our team, we are proud to announce a €6 billion investment in our Flight Plan 2030. This strategic move will fuel our expansion of the long-haul fleet and solidify Madrid Barajas Airport (MAD) as a key European hub, enhancing global connectivity for Spain."
Under the Flight Plan 2030, Iberia aims to bolster its long-haul fleet from 47 to around 70 aircraft, incorporating modern Airbus A350s, A321XLRs, and potentially A330neos from a recent IAG group order. This expansion will be complemented by the renewal of the short- and medium-haul fleet, transitioning to more environmentally friendly A320neos and A321neos, aligning with Iberia's commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
Furthermore, the carrier plans to introduce new routes to its long-haul network, amplifying frequencies to existing destinations and venturing into new opportunities, especially across the Atlantic. To enhance customer service and experience, Iberia intends to invest significantly in Artificial Intelligence, digitalization, and personalization, revamping cabin interiors and carry-on baggage capacity.
Beyond operational enhancements, Iberia's Flight Plan 2030 marks the establishment of 'Ciudad Iberia' in La Muñoza, Spain, which will serve as the airline's tech and innovation hub. This cutting-edge facility, adjacent to Madrid-Barajas Airport, will house Iberia's corporate headquarters, fueling economic growth and job opportunities. Sansavini emphasized that the expansion and development plans are projected to create around 1,000 new jobs annually, fostering career advancement opportunities for all employees.
With the projected economic impact, Iberia anticipates contributing substantially to Spain's GDP and job market, paving the way for a prosperous future. The carrier's dedication to growth and innovation under Flight Plan 2030 signifies a transformative chapter in its journey towards excellence.
