IndiGo, the popular Indian low-cost airline, revealed exciting plans for a major expansion of its international network in the coming year during an announcement on May 30, 2025. The airline's CEO Pieter Elbers proudly shared that at least ten new international routes would be introduced within the next 12 months, raising the total international destinations served by IndiGo to an impressive 50.
This big news came out just before the kick-off of the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), which IndiGo is set to host in Delhi from June 1-3, 2025. Among the new destinations in the pipeline, some were already known, like the upcoming routes from Mumbai (BOM) to Manchester (MAN) and Amsterdam (AMS) starting in July 2025, while others were unexpected surprises.
IndiGo's expansion strategy includes breaking into the European market by launching direct flights to London Gatwick (LGW), Athens (ATH), and Copenhagen (CPH). The airline also has its sights set on expanding in Southeast Asia with new flights to Siem Reap, Cambodia (SIA), as well as in Central Asia, where they will introduce services to Almaty (ALA) and Tashkent (TAS), among other destinations.
To support this growth, IndiGo is ramping up its fleet, with plans to have a whopping 600 aircraft by 2030. The airline is set to temporarily lease six Boeing B787 aircraft from Norse Atlantic Airways before transitioning to their order of 30 Airbus A350 aircraft starting in 2027. These long-haul aircraft will be complemented by the single-aisle Airbus A321XLRs.
Excitingly, IndiGo also revealed its plans to establish a maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) center at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport with Bangalore International Airport Ltd. (BIAL). This MRO facility, spanning 31 hectares, will cater to both narrow-body and wide-body aircraft in IndiGo's fleet.
With all these developments in the works, IndiGo is all set to soar to new heights in the aviation industry, promising travelers more options and seamless connectivity across the globe.
