Israeli Tech Entrepreneurs Launch Airline for Nonstop US Flights

A group of innovative Israeli tech entrepreneurs has come together to address the limited options for flights between Tel Aviv and the US by launching their own airline, TechAir. The ongoing military conflicts around Israel have resulted in a reduction in airlines flying to the region, prompting this new venture to provide nonstop flights between Tel-Aviv Ben Gurion International Airport and New York-JFK, with plans to begin operations by the end of January 2025.
The idea for TechAir stemmed from the 'Israeli High-Tech Headquarters', which brings together tech company founders and managers frequently traveling to the US for business. With El Al as the only carrier offering nonstop flights between Tel Aviv and the US, there has been a lack of options leading to high fares and limited availability, particularly for economy class passengers.
TechAir aims to fill this gap by offering competitive pricing, with pre-launch prices ranging from $900 to $1550 for economy class flights. Operating as a virtual carrier, TechAir will rely on wet-leased aircraft operated by an established third-party airline, ensuring efficient operations while focusing on marketing and commercialization.
The initial plan is for TechAir to run up to 36 seasonal flights between January and March 2025, targeting a specific threshold of bookings to determine its launch. While initial reports suggested Portuguese ACMI and charter carrier EuroAtlantic as potential operators, TechAir's website now specifies an Israeli airline utilizing Airbus A330-900neo aircraft for its operations, even though no Israeli carrier currently has such aircraft.
Interested passengers can visit TechAir's website to register and pre-book flights, signaling strong interest in the project and potentially a need for more accessible air travel options between Tel Aviv and the US.
