Korean Air and Boeing have officially sealed the deal on an eagerly anticipated order for up to 50 new widebody jets, following the initial discussions that began at the Farnborough Airshow last year. The confirmed order, revealed on March 26, 2025, consists of 20 Boeing 777-9s and 20 787-10s, with the possibility of acquiring an additional 10 787 Dreamliners in the future. This significant agreement has been hailed by Boeing as a "landmark order" marking a longstanding partnership that has endured for fifty years between the two companies.

Walter Cho, the chairman and CEO of Korean Air and Hanjin Group, expressed his enthusiasm for further strengthening their historical relationship through this substantial order. "For over 50 years, Korean Air and Boeing have built a relationship based on trust and mutual growth. Today, we further strengthen our historic partnership with this landmark order," Cho remarked.

These state-of-the-art widebody aircraft, to be equipped with GEnx and GE9X engines, are expected to be part of Korean Air's fleet by 2033, with the deal valued at $24.9 billion. The announcement of the plan to acquire up to 50 Boeing widebody aircraft was made during the 2024 Farnborough Airshow.

Dan Schull, Boeing Vice President of Commercial Sales and Marketing for Northeast Asia, emphasized the significance of the order: "This record order is the culmination of our more than 50-year partnership with Korean Air and demonstrates the strength of Boeing’s market-leading widebody family."

In addition to the aircraft purchase, Korean Air has also agreed on an engine deal with GE Aerospace, which covers the maintenance, repair, and overhaul of the GE9X engines. Russell Stokes, President, and CEO of Commercial Engines and Services, GE Aerospace, expressed gratitude for the continued trust of Korean Air, stating, "Today’s order represents the next chapter in our long-standing partnership with Korean Air and reaffirms our commitment to support their successful fleet upgrade and expansion."
