Pilotcenter.net News: Korean Air Marks 30 Years of Non-Stop Flights Between Seoul and Atlanta

On December 12, 2024, Korean Air commemorated three decades of offering uninterrupted flights between Seoul Incheon Airport and Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport. To honor the milestone, the airline decided to reward the 30th passenger checking in for flight KE036 to Seoul with a complimentary round-trip economy class ticket between Atlanta and Seoul. In a gesture of gratitude, all passengers on the flight received a special tote bag and a jar of honey sourced from Georgia’s picturesque Savannah region.

As part of the celebration, the South Korean flag carrier organized a festive dinner in downtown Atlanta on December 9, 2024. The event was graced by distinguished guests, including representatives from the Korean Consulate, industry partners, key travel agencies, members of the media, and Korean Air officials. Jin Ho Lee, the Senior Vice President and Head of Americas Regional Headquarters at Korean Air, expressed heartfelt appreciation during the gathering, stating, “On this special occasion, we sincerely thank our customers for their steadfast support over the past 30 years and for choosing Korean Air as their preferred travel partner. We remain committed to strengthening ties between Korea and Atlanta and providing excellent service for years to come.”

Korean Air initiated its Atlanta service on December 12, 1994, with an initial schedule of three flights per week from Seoul Gimpo Airport via Chicago O’Hare International Airport. Presently, the route operates daily flights, highlighting its crucial role in facilitating business, logistics, tourism, and cultural exchanges between South Korea and the United States.

Since the 1990s, South Korean businesses have significantly invested in Georgia, with several establishing manufacturing facilities within the Peach State. Leading South Korean companies such as Hyundai Motor Group, Hanwha Qcells, and SK Group have made a notable impact and have become well-known names across various communities in the state, providing employment opportunities equivalent to the population of small towns.

The Georgia Department of Economic Development continues to foster trade and economic relationships with South Korea. A report published in June 2024 by the State of Georgia revealed that total trade between Georgia and Korea exceeded $15.8 billion in the year 2023, constituting nearly 10 percent of the state’s overall trade volume.
