Korean Air to Seal Farnborough Deal for 20 Boeing 777-9s and 20 787-10s

Korean Air has confirmed a significant step towards expanding its fleet by finalizing a memorandum of understanding at the prestigious Farnborough Airshow 2024. The agreement, which involves the procurement of 20 Boeing 777-9 and 20 787-10 aircraft, is a reflection of the airline's strategic vision and commitment to growth.
During a momentous signing ceremony on March 21, 2025, key representatives from the South Korean government, Boeing, and GE Aerospace came together to solidify this partnership. Boeing's President and CEO, Kelly Ortberg, alongside GE Aerospace CEO, Russel Stokes, joined Korean Air's CEO, Walter Cho, in affirming their mutual dedication to advancing the aviation industry.
“This partnership emphasizes Korean Air's dedication to collaboration with industry leaders like Boeing and GE Aerospace as we progress towards finalizing deals totaling a staggering $32.7 billion,” highlighted a spokesperson from the South Korean government.
The forthcoming agreement will see Korean Air formalize orders for 20 Boeing 777-9 and 20 787-10 by 2033, with options for an additional ten aircraft valued at $24.9 billion. Additionally, the airline will secure a firm order for eight spare engines from GE Aerospace, with the possibility of two more engines and maintenance services, amounting to $7.8 billion.
South Korean Minister of Trade, Industry, and Energy, Ahn Duk-geun, expressed enthusiasm for the airline's collaboration with prominent U.S. aviation companies, noting, “Through these partnerships, Korean Air is poised to enhance its standing in the global aviation landscape, moving closer to realizing its goal of being among the world’s top ten airlines.”
Boeing and Korean Air had initially disclosed plans for the acquisition of up to 50 widebody aircraft at the 2024 Farnborough Airshow, setting the stage for the airline's ambitious growth strategy. Furthermore, the carrier recently introduced a fresh livery and brand identity, symbolizing a new chapter in its history post the merger with Asiana Airlines.
