LOT Polish Airlines revealed its impressive 2024 financial report, marking one of its most successful years yet. The Polish flag carrier achieved revenues of PLN 9.93 billion (approx. US$2.51 billion) and a net profit of PLN 688.5 million (approx. US$174 million). With an operating profit (EBIT) of PLN 805.7 million (approx. US$204 million) and an operating margin of 8.1%, LOT attributes its positive performance to strategic network optimization, stringent cost controls, and seizing opportunities in the charter market.
"We are delighted to see the fruits of our hard work reflected in these outstanding results," stated the airline's management.
Furthermore, LOT experienced growth in its charter market segment, serving 1.3 million passengers out of the total 10.7 million passengers carried in 2024, marking an 18.5% increase from the previous year. Alongside the increase in passengers, LOT expanded its fleet by welcoming 11 new aircraft, including seven Boeing 737 MAX 8s, three Embraer 195 E-2s, and one legacy E195, totaling 86 aircraft as of February 2025. The airline's fleet is set to grow further in 2025, with plans to lease three additional Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft from BOC Aviation.
Looking ahead, LOT is considering larger aircraft orders to renew and enlarge its fleet in preparation for its anticipated relocation to the new Central Communication Port (CPK) airport and logistics hub in the upcoming decade. In terms of network expansion, LOT introduced eight new destinations from Warsaw (WAW), spanning Central Asia, the Middle East, and Europe, including Tashkent (TAS), Riyadh (RUH), Tenerife (TFS), Larnaca (LCA), Oradea (OMR), Lyon (LYS), and Innsbruck (INN).
However, the airline plans to discontinue its sole remaining long-haul route from Budapest (BUD) to Seoul (ICN) after March 26, 2025. This decision will see the Boeing 787 aircraft redeployed to its Warsaw hub, increasing weekly flights connecting the Polish capital to Seoul from four to six.
LOT's strategic approach to growth and optimization continues to position it as a leading player in the European aviation market. Stay tuned for more updates on how the airline navigates the dynamic and competitive air travel industry.
