LOT Polish Airlines has announced a major aircraft fleet upgrade by choosing Airbus for their new regional fleet. At the Paris Air Show 2025, they placed an order for up to 84 A220s. This decision came after tough competition, with Airbus ultimately winning the contract over Embraer. The deal includes 20 A220-100s and 20 A220-300s, with an option for 44 additional planes in the future.

The new fleet of Airbus A220s will be powered by Pratt & Whitney PW1500G engines, with deliveries scheduled between 2027 and 2031. Michał Fijoł, President & CEO of LOT Polish Airlines, shared his excitement for the future, stating, “The Airbus A220 family aircraft represent new growth opportunities for us and align with our development strategy. These modern and fuel-efficient planes will enhance our competitive edge in the European market and strengthen our position as the preferred carrier in this region.”

This fleet renewal plan will see the A220s gradually replace LOT’s current Embraer E1s and E2s, marking the first time the airline has chosen Airbus aircraft for its operations. The configuration ordered by LOT includes Recaro seats manufactured in Poland, offering passengers enhanced comfort with features such as mobile device holders and high-speed USB-C ports for convenient charging.

Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Airbus Executive Vice President of Sales for Commercial Aircraft, expressed satisfaction with the deal, saying, “This order for 40 Airbus A220s is a significant moment as we welcome LOT Polish Airlines into the Airbus family. The A220 Family will play a key role in LOT’s fleet modernization and network expansion plans, providing the ideal solution for their requirements.”

With the A220-100 and A220-300 models catering to the 100-135 and 120-160 seat markets respectively, LOT’s new fleet is set to offer enhanced capacity and efficiency. As of the end of May 2025, the A220 has received over 900 firm orders from a wide range of customers globally, with more than 415 aircraft already delivered.

The future looks bright for LOT Polish Airlines with their strategic decision to embrace the Airbus A220 as a cornerstone of their fleet modernization and growth ambitions. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting development at Pilotcenter.net News!
