Lufthansa Group Expands Fleet with Additional A350-1000 Aircraft Order

Pilotcenter.net News has reported that the Lufthansa Group recently made an exciting announcement regarding their fleet expansion. The airline has placed an order for an additional five A350-1000 aircraft, bringing the total firm order for this next-generation long-haul plane to fifteen. These new aircraft are expected to be delivered between 2028 and 2030, with a total value of approximately $2 billion at list price.

Currently, Lufthansa Group has a total order of 75 A350-900s and A350-1000s, with 28 already in service and 47 more set to be delivered by 2031. Earlier in March 2023, the airline ordered ten A350-1000s, with deliveries slated to commence in April 2026.

Carsten Spohr, Chairman of the Executive Board and CEO of Deutsche Lufthansa AG, emphasized the airline's strong partnership with Airbus, stating, “Today’s order underscores our great confidence in our long-standing, close and successful partnership with Airbus." He also expressed the airline's commitment to sustainability, noting, “We are investing more than ever before in our history to make air transport more sustainable, to achieve our CO₂ reduction targets and at the same time offer our customers the highest level of comfort with a first-class travel experience.”

Spohr proudly shared that Lufthansa Group has a long history with Airbus, having ordered a total of 770 aircraft from the manufacturer. With the integration of ITA Airways in January, the Airbus fleet of Lufthansa Group Airlines is expected to expand by another 100 short- and long-haul aircraft.

The A350 long-haul jets are set to replace older four-engine aircraft models like the Boeing 747-400, Airbus A340-600, and Airbus A340-300, marking a significant step towards modernizing the airline's fleet for enhanced efficiency and sustainability. This strategic move aligns with Lufthansa Group's commitment to offering passengers a premium travel experience while prioritizing environmental responsibility.
