Lufthansa has taken a strategic step by temporarily stationing four Airbus A350-900s at Frankfurt Airport (FRA), with plans to add two more soon, to address delays in aircraft deliveries. CEO of Lufthansa, Jens Ritter, emphasized the importance of this move in light of the upcoming summer flight schedule. These A350-900s have been smoothly operating on routes to Seoul and Shanghai since March 30, 2025, with flights to Denver and Seattle commencing on May 1 and July 1, 2025, respectively.
Ritter expressed that the temporary deployment of A350 aircraft from Frankfurt was necessary to bridge the gap caused by the delays in deliveries. He highlighted the enhanced travel experience facilitated by Lufthansa's cutting-edge Airbus fleet until the arrival of new long-haul aircraft. Anticipating the most extensive fleet modernization in its history over the next 36 months, Lufthansa aims to integrate 61 new aircraft by the end of 2027, averaging one new delivery every two weeks.
Travelers departing from Frankfurt Airport can now enjoy flights to various international destinations onboard the Airbus A350-900. Lufthansa Group recently unveiled its financial results for the year, describing it as a period divided into two halves mainly due to aircraft delivery setbacks. Carsten Spohr, Chairman of the Executive Board and CEO of Deutsche Lufthansa, acknowledged the challenges faced in the earlier part of the year, such as strikes, delayed deliveries, and operational issues at their hubs.
With orders pending, including 15 Airbus A350-1000s and 14 A350-900s, Lufthansa also awaits the arrival of 34 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners and 21 777-9s. The airline is looking forward to receiving the initial Boeing 777-9, part of the 777X program, which also features the smaller 777-8 variant.
