International Airlines Group (IAG), a British-Spanish multinational airline holding company, has recently made a significant move by placing an order for up to 76 new aircraft from industry giants Boeing and Airbus. The announcement, made on May 9, 2025, revealed that these new planes are set to revolutionize IAG's long-haul fleets, introducing modern and fuel-efficient models that will pave the way for growth and innovation.

Among the highlights of this bold decision is the procurement of 53 new long-haul aircraft, with 32 Boeing 787-10s destined for British Airways and 21 Airbus A330-900neos allocated for Aer Lingus, Iberia, or LEVEL. To further boost their fleet, IAG has also secured options for an additional 10 Boeing 787s and up to 13 more Airbus A330-900neos, all scheduled for delivery between 2028 and 2033.

With a strategic focus on enhancing customer experience and shareholder value, IAG's CEO Luis Gallego expressed his enthusiasm about the future prospects of the airline group. “Looking ahead to the next decade, these new aircraft will enable us to strengthen our core markets and further improve our customer experience, while continuing to drive long-term value for our shareholders,” said Gallego, emphasizing the long-term vision behind these acquisitions.

This latest development adds to IAG's previous orders placed in March 2025, which included Airbus A350-900s for Iberia and Airbus A350-1000s, as well as Boeing 777-9s for British Airways. The arrival of these new aircraft marks a significant step towards modernizing the fleet, ensuring operational efficiency, and ultimately enhancing the overall travel experience for passengers.

In conclusion, the ambitious procurement plan by IAG underscores the company's commitment to staying at the forefront of the aviation industry, setting a new standard for innovation and sustainability in air travel.
