Malaysia Airlines makes a triumphant return to Kolkata, India, with the introduction of direct flights after an 18-year hiatus. This exciting development sees the launch of five weekly flights commencing on December 2, 2024. Departing from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) at 21:35 local time and arriving at Kolkata’s Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport (CCU) at 23:00 local time after a brief three-hour and 45-minute journey, passengers will be flown on the airline’s reliable B737-800 aircraft.

The inaugural flight marked the beginning of a remarkable adventure as Chief Executive Officer of Airlines at Malaysia Airlines Group, Ahmad Luqman Mohd Azmi, shared, “We are delighted to recommence direct flights between Kuala Lumpur and the bustling metropolis of Kolkata, strengthening the bond between Malaysia and India while opening exciting opportunities for both leisure and business travelers." He added, “This route reinforces our commitment to offering luxurious and culturally immersive travel experiences, further solidifying Malaysia Airlines’ position as the gateway to Malaysia and beyond for discerning travelers. As we embark on this journey, we invite everyone to discover the rich heritage, dynamic cityscapes, and unmatched hospitality that Kolkata has to offer.”

The collaboration between Malaysia Airlines and IndiGo has expanded connectivity, now linking Malaysia to 16 destinations across India. Through the codeshare agreement effective as of October 2024, Malaysia Airlines’ flight code “MH” will be integrated with seven domestic destinations in India, promoting ease of travel and enhancing the overall experience for passengers.

Indians represent the second-largest minority group in Malaysia, accounting for approximately 8% of the nation’s population. Malaysia stands as the third country with the largest Indian diaspora, following the United States and United Arab Emirates. This new direct flight service not only strengthens ties between the two countries but also facilitates seamless travel experiences for passengers, fostering cultural exchange and enhancing connectivity between Malaysia and India.
