Maldivian, the flagship airline of the stunning Maldives archipelago, has proudly announced the exciting addition of their very first Airbus A330 wide-body aircraft to their fleet. Unveiled on a momentous day for the airline, January 6, 2025, this significant milestone marks a leap forward in their 25th-anniversary celebrations, tracing back to their humble beginnings in 2000 with just two aircraft.

The reveal of the Airbus A330-200 was met with great enthusiasm as the airline heralded this new chapter in their aviation journey. Among the notable attendees at the inauguration event held at Velana International Airport (MLE) were Mohamed Muizzu, President of the Maldives, and Hussain Mohamed Latheef, Vice President, alongside esteemed government and airline officials.

In a spectacular display, Maldivian showcased their current fleet of Dash-8, DHC-6 Twin Otters, and ATR aircraft through an enthralling air show that captivated onlookers. Highlighting the significance of this expansion, Ibrahim Iyas, the Managing Director of Island Aviation Services, expressed, "With the introduction of our very first wide-body aircraft, we are now ready to enhance our international flight capacity, unlock new routes, and establish connections to long-haul locations."

Equipped with three exquisite cabin classes catering to a total of 264 passengers, the new A330-200 will pave the way for direct flights to bustling Chinese cities like Beijing, Shanghai, and Chengdu. This strategic move is expected to invigorate the Maldives' tourism sector, drawing in a wave of visitors from China and beyond.

Looking ahead, Maldivian is gearing up to strengthen its long-haul flight operations, with plans to extend its reach to prominent destinations in Europe and South Africa. By leveraging the enhanced passenger capacity and extended reach of the new aircraft, the airline is poised to elevate its international services, meeting the surging demand for seamless travel between the Maldives, China, and other coveted tourist hotspots.
