Uganda Airlines has exciting news for travelers! Beginning on May 18, 2025, a new scheduled route will link the capital city of Entebbe with London. The flights, operating four times a week in each direction, will cover 3,479 nautical miles and will be serviced by the carrier's unique Airbus A330-800neo fleet, which consists of two aircraft. While initially eyeing London-Heathrow Airport for its excellent connectivity options, the airline has opted to fly to London-Gatwick due to slot constraints at Heathrow and lower costs at Gatwick.

This announcement marks a significant milestone as Uganda resumes direct non-stop services to the UK after British Airways stopped operations in November 2015. CEO Jenifer Bamuturaki shared her enthusiasm during the unveiling event in Entebbe, saying, "The Crane will be flapping its wings into the United Kingdom, meaning connectivity and opportunities for Uganda." She emphasized the strategic planning and perseverance that led to this momentous occasion. Despite the unconventional flight timings, the airline believes that having an irregular schedule from Gatwick is preferable to no service from Heathrow.

General Edward Katumba Wamala, Ugandan Minister of Works and Transport, expressed his endorsement of the new route, highlighting its potential to boost the country's global influence. Adedayo Olawuyi, Chief Commercial Director of Uganda Airlines, emphasized the positive impact this route will have on various sectors, including trade, tourism, and education. With London becoming the 17th destination in Uganda Airlines' global network, the carrier plans to expand its fleet to meet increasing demand, aiming for more aircraft acquisitions and leasing options.

The Airbus A330-800neo, a rare variant known for its long-haul capabilities, will serve passengers in a three-class configuration with 258 seats. In addition to these widebody aircraft, Uganda Airlines operates four Canadair CRJ900 regional jets and has been utilizing an Airbus A320 through wet leasing agreements to open up new routes. This development positions Uganda Airlines for sustained growth and expansion, solidifying its presence in the competitive global aviation market.
