Norwegian Group's Impressive Growth in May 2025 Signals a Thriving Summer Ahead

Norwegian Group, the renowned Scandinavian airline conglomerate encompassing Norwegian Airlines and its regional branch, Widerøe, has recently unveiled its operational performance for May 2025. The latest figures underscore the Group's sustained growth, with both airlines undergoing expansions in anticipation of a bustling summer season ahead. In the specified month, Norwegian saw 2,178,172 travelers onboard, complemented by Widerøe accommodating 349,345 passengers, culminating in the Group's total of 2,527,517 passengers.
Amidst these soaring numbers, Norwegian's load factor surged by 1.5 percentage points in May compared to the previous year, portraying a positive trajectory. The airline's capacity increase was notable at 3,560 million seat kilometers, marking a 3% rise year-on-year. Concurrently, the actual passenger traffic for Norwegian escalated by 5% to reach 2,975 million seat kilometers. Impressively, the carrier's overall load factor ascended to 83.6 percent, reflecting an advancement of 1.5 percentage points year-on-year. In May 2025, Norwegian efficiently operated an average of 86 aircraft.
On the other hand, Widerøe's capacity witnessed an 8% surge from May 2024, reaching 193 million seat kilometers, though the load factor exhibited a slight dip of 0.8 percentage points year-on-year, landing at 68.6 percent. Noteworthy is the punctuality of both Norwegian and Widerøe, boasting rates of 88.4% and 92.9%, respectively, as well as commendable regularity rates of 99.7 percent and 97.8 percent, respectively.
Geir Karlsen, the CEO of Norwegian, expressed satisfaction with the growth demonstrated in May, emphasizing the improved load factor and passenger numbers compared to the previous year. Karlsen also lauded the exceptional on-time performance and regularity achieved by Widerøe in May 2025. Looking ahead, Norwegian anticipates an eventful peak season in June 2025 with an elevated capacity, asserting readiness to cater to their customers with flights to over 120 destinations across Europe and beyond. Karlsen urges prospective travelers to secure their summer bookings promptly, given the escalating demand for popular destinations.
As per ch-aviation, Norwegian is poised to operate a fleet of 88 aircraft during summer 2025, including 64 Boeing 737-800s and 24 Boeing 737 MAX 8s, serving 164 routes across 109 destinations in 36 countries. Simultaneously, Widerøe will be deploying 48 De Havilland Canada DHC-8 turboprops and three Embraer E2 regional jets for domestic and regional operations. This underscores Norwegian Group's commitment to enhancing connectivity and offering seamless travel experiences to passengers globally.
