Exciting times are ahead for the Oneworld global airline alliance, with 2025 slated to be a significant year as it welcomes not one, but two new full airline members into its fold. With a growing network of branded airline lounges and an increasing interest from airlines to join the alliance, the future looks bright for this international partnership.
Established in 1999 by founding partners American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, and Qantas, Oneworld has since expanded to include a diverse lineup of airlines such as Alaska Airlines, Finnair, and Japan Airlines, among others. The upcoming addition of Muscat-based Oman Air in the second quarter of 2025 is set to mark another milestone for the alliance.
Oman Air, which is set to become the 14th full member of Oneworld on June 30, 2025, is currently in the midst of an expansion phase, with new Dreamliners joining its fleet and plans for a potential return of flights to Singapore on the horizon. Its partnership with future Oneworld member Qantas is expected to bring mutual benefits through codeshare agreements and expanded route networks.
Following Oman Air, Fiji Airways is slated to become the 15th airline to join Oneworld later in 2025. As a Oneworld Connect member for the past five years, Fiji Airways has already established partnerships with existing Oneworld airlines, paving the way for its transition to full member status. The carrier’s integration process is set to commence soon, with a completion timeframe of within the next twelve months.
Headquartered at Nadi International Airport, Fiji Airways currently operates flights to 26 destinations across 15 countries and territories, including major hubs like Sydney, Hong Kong, Los Angeles, and Tokyo. The airline, which first took flight in 1951, maintains a diverse fleet of aircraft, including Airbus and Boeing models.
As more airlines look to join Oneworld in the future, speculation is rife about potential candidates such as Hawaiian Airlines, Starlux Airlines from Taiwan, and TAP Air Portugal. The dynamics of the alliance are set to evolve further, offering new opportunities for collaboration and growth in the competitive airline industry.
