In a groundbreaking move to mark International Women’s Day 2025, Qantas and Jetstar Australia have taken to the skies with 50 all-female operated flights this week. From March 3-9, 2025, over 250 skilled women encompassing pilots, cabin crew, engineers, and ground staff from Qantas, QantasLink, and Jetstar will unite to operate flights spanning more than 20 routes in Australia, New Zealand, and Asia.
The maiden voyage, a Jetstar service from Adelaide Airport (ADL) to Sydney Kingsford Smith International Airport (SYD), took flight on the morning of March 3, 2025, setting the tone for a series of empowering flights throughout the week. Destinations include SYD Airport to Hobart Airport (HBA), Brisbane Airport (BNE) to Geraldton Airport (GET), Cairns Airport (CNS) to Melbourne Airport (MEL), SYD Airport to Perth Airport (PER), Auckland Airport (AKL) to Christchurch Airport (CHC), and Tokyo Narita International Airport (NRT) to Fukuoka Airport (FUK).
Second Officer B787 Brigitte Howe expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “It’s exciting to see incredible talent across Qantas and Jetstar come together in force so more flights than ever before can soar in recognition of International Women’s Day.” Howe added, “My hope is that young girls see these flights and are inspired to take up a career in aviation working beside supportive, passionate, inclusive, and seriously talented women.”
Jetstar’s Senior Manager of Flying Operations Captain Lizzie Archibald emphasized the significance of the all-female crews, highlighting the exceptional talent and leadership women bring to the aviation industry. Archibald said, “Jetstar is proud to have women in leadership positions across the airline, inspiring the next generation of female leaders.”
Furthermore, Qantas affirmed its commitment to fostering female talent in aviation by offering scholarships and educational opportunities. The Group Pilot Academy has doubled the number of scholarships to 20 for female and First Nations students, while women made up 20% of the apprentice intake at the Qantas Group Engineering Academy. Jetstar has also made strides, with a record 35% of its 2025 engineering graduates being women.
As these pioneering flights take to the skies, they not only celebrate the contributions of women to the aviation industry but also serve as a beacon of inspiration for aspiring female aviators worldwide. Through mentorship, education, and unwavering support, Qantas and Jetstar are paving the way for a more inclusive and diverse future in aviation.
