Qatar Airways Cargo and Japan Airlines have recently inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that is set to revolutionize the cargo industry. This new collaboration between the two carriers will bring about a slew of benefits for their respective cargo clients. By working hand in hand, Qatar Airways Cargo and Japan Airlines’ JALCARGO division aim to create a more efficient system for transferring cargo and maximizing their networks for seamless operations.
This exciting partnership is expected to not only optimize trade flows between the regions served by Japan Airlines and Qatar Airways Cargo but also generate significant economic value. In the past year alone, these airlines have handled a whopping 4,462 tons of import and export cargo in Japan, showcasing the profound impact of their cooperation.
Qatar Airways Cargo Chief Officer Cargo, Mark Drusch, emphasized the significance of this collaboration, stating, "This MoU signifies our commitment to a stronger partnership, with the goal of integrating our networks via the hubs in Doha and Tokyo. By doing so, we will not only enhance network connectivity but also enrich product offerings for our customers, linking Japan to Qatar Airways’ extensive network across Europe, the Middle East, the Levant, and Africa."
Japan Airlines, after a 13-year hiatus, recently reintroduced a dedicated cargo service utilizing a Boeing 767-300ER freighter. Yuichiro Kitof, Japan Airlines Executive Officer, Senior Vice President, and Head of Cargo & Mail, remarked on the agreement, "This partnership further solidifies the longstanding relationship between JAL and Qatar Airways Cargo. With the recent launch of our own freighters, we are excited to leverage JAL’s combined passenger flights, freighter network, and the expanded Qatar Airways network to provide customers with access to an even wider array of destinations."
Looking ahead, the collaboration will reach greater heights next year as Qatar Airways Cargo is poised to roll out freighter services between its hub at Hamad International Airport (DOH) in Qatar and Japan Airlines' hub at Tokyo-Narita International Airport (NRT). This development is set to reshape the cargo landscape, offering enhanced connectivity and accessibility to a myriad of destinations for customers of both carriers.
