In an exciting move, Qatar Airways has added Abha International Airport (AHB) to its list of destinations in Saudi Arabia, now flying to 11 cities in the neighboring country. The airline recently resumed flights to Abha on January 2, 2025, with the first flight touching down after departing from Hamad International Airport (DOH) in Doha. This development marks a significant step for Qatar Airways, which now connects key cities like Alula, Dammam, Jeddah Abha, Medina, NEOM, Qassim, Riyadh, Tabuk, Taif, and Yanbu with its network.
With two weekly flights scheduled to Abha, operating on Thursdays and Saturdays, Qatar Airways aims to enhance connectivity and support tourism between Saudi Arabia and Qatar. Group CEO Mohammed Al-Meer expressed the airline's commitment to fostering economic and cultural ties between the two nations by facilitating travel for over 36,000 passengers weekly.
Ali Masrahi, CEO of Cluster 2 Airports Company, applauded the new route as a significant move toward promoting tourism and connectivity in alignment with Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030. Masrahi emphasized the importance of expanding air networks to support the growth of the tourism and aviation sectors in Saudi Arabia.
Qatar Airways began its services in Saudi Arabia with the inaugural flight to Jeddah back in 1997. By including Abha in its extensive global network, the airline aims to offer travelers from Aseer unparalleled travel experiences and award-winning services. A spokesperson for Qatar Airways highlighted that passengers flying through Hamad International Airport will enjoy seamless connections to over 170 destinations worldwide, making travel convenient and enjoyable for both business and leisure travelers.
