In a recent announcement addressed to its loyal customers, the regional airline Silver Airways from the United States revealed its decision to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. Dated December 30, 2024, the open letter expressed the airline's commitment to ensuring a sustainable future by initiating the Chapter 11 proceedings. With its main operations connecting various gateways in Florida, the southeast of the US, and The Bahamas, Silver Airways took the voluntary step to file for Chapter 11 protection in the US Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Florida.
"This decision paves the way for us to secure additional capital and embark on a financial restructuring that will fortify our standing as a competitive airline, ultimately benefiting you — our esteemed customers," mentioned Silver Airways in the communication. Chapter 11 of the Bankruptcy Code, as outlined by the United States Courts, typically focuses on reorganization, particularly for corporations or partnerships. Debtors propose a reorganization plan to sustain their business operations and gradually repay creditors.
The airline expressed its anticipation of completing this process by the first quarter of 2025, reassuring customers that all existing tickets remain valid, and operations will proceed without disruptions. In a parallel development on November 18, 2024, the ultra-low-cost carrier Spirit Airlines confirmed its entry into a prearranged Chapter 11 process. Backed by a restructuring support agreement with Spirit's bondholders, the comprehensive restructuring aims to solidify the airline's future stability.
As reported by ch-aviation, Silver Airways currently operates an active fleet consisting of seven ATR42-600s and five ATR72-600s. Established in 2011, the airline continues to navigate through these financial adjustments while maintaining its services for passengers.
