SkyWest Airlines has just made a major move at the Paris Air Show by securing a deal with Embraer for the purchase of up to 110 brand-new Embraer E175s. The announcement, made on June 18, 2025, revealed that SkyWest would acquire 60 aircraft initially, with the option to buy an additional 50 planes down the line.
Among the first batch of planes, 16 have already been designated to fly under a multi-year contract for Delta Air Lines, starting deliveries in 2027. These new E175s are set to replace 11 CRJ900s and five CRJ700s currently in service with Delta, showcasing SkyWest's commitment to modernizing its fleet and offering top-notch service to its passengers.
Chip Childs, President, and CEO of SkyWest, expressed his excitement about the deal, stating, “We’re pleased to strengthen our Delta partnership and to continue to grow our E175 fleet. This aircraft order enables us to advance our long-term fleet strategy, enhance our dual-class footprint, and continue to lead the industry in delivering an exceptional product for Delta and each of our flying partners.”
The firm order for 60 E175s comes with a price tag of $3.6 billion, according to Embraer. Childs emphasized SkyWest's position as the largest E175 owner and operator globally, highlighting the airline's dedication to providing top-tier regional connectivity.
SkyWest's plans don't stop there - the airline has also secured positions for the delivery of an additional 44 E175s between 2028 and 2032, contingent on entering into flying agreements with its major airline partners.
With operations for Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and United Airlines in the US, SkyWest is a key player in the regional aviation sector. The options on 50 more aircraft will give the airline flexibility in managing its fleet over the next decade while supporting its growth trajectory.
Arjan Meijer, President, and CEO of Embraer Commercial Aviation, expressed his delight at the continued partnership with SkyWest, stressing the importance of the E175 in shaping regional aviation in North America.
This significant deal underscores SkyWest’s confidence in Embraer's aircraft, promising enhanced performance, reliability, and passenger comfort for years to come.
