Airlink, the Johannesburg-based airline, has just announced a significant change in leadership set for 2025. Current CEO and Managing Director, Rodger Foster, plans to step down after an impressive 33-year tenure with the company. This move marks the end of an era for Foster, who has been instrumental in guiding Airlink since its founding in 1992. Soon to take the reins as the new CEO on April 1, 2025, is Airlink’s current Chief Financial Officer, de Villiers Engelbrecht, a seasoned veteran within the company.

In a heartfelt statement, Foster expressed his gratitude for the journey he has led with Airlink, acknowledging both the challenges and triumphs that have shaped the airline. Reflecting on his decision to pass the torch to Engelbrecht, Foster emphasized the latter’s deep involvement and invaluable contributions to Airlink’s growth and stability. Over the years, Engelbrecht has played a crucial role in navigating the airline through turbulent times, including its separation from SAA and the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Despite facing significant challenges, Airlink has proven to be a resilient and thriving business with a solid foundation. The recent equity injection from Qatar Airways Group, acquiring a 25% stake in the airline, has further strengthened Airlink's position in the industry. Foster credited the dedicated Airlink team for their unwavering commitment and professionalism, emphasizing that their collective efforts have been essential to the airline's success.

With a fleet of 67 Embraer regional jets and a growing network of destinations across 15 countries, Airlink continues to expand its reach in the aviation market. The airline’s partnership with Qatar Airways and its strategic alliances with global carriers have contributed to its sustained growth and resilience. This strategic vision, coupled with a strong leadership transition plan, positions Airlink for continued success in the competitive airline industry.
