STARLUX Airlines of Taiwan has doubled down on their commitment to expanding their cargo fleet by placing a firm order with Airbus for an additional five A350F freighters. This comes as a supplementary order following their initial purchase of five A350Fs earlier in 2024. The Taiwanese carrier plans to operate all ten freighters under their dedicated cargo division, STARLUX Cargo, on some of the busiest global freight routes.
The A350F, a variant of the A350-900 widebody jet, is yet to be certified but boasts impressive specifications. With a payload capacity of up to 111 tonnes and a range of 4,700 nautical miles (8,700 km), it promises efficiency and sustainability. Equipped with Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-97 engines, Airbus claims the A350F will significantly reduce fuel consumption and carbon emissions by up to 40% compared to previous generation aircraft with similar capabilities. Notably, the A350F is designed to meet ICAO’s enhanced CO₂ emissions standards, which will come into effect in 2027.
STARLUX Airlines CEO Glenn Chai expressed confidence in the A350F, emphasizing its role in the carrier's evolving business model. Chai highlighted the aircraft's operational advantages and environmental benefits, making it a strategic choice for STARLUX. Airbus EVP Sales Commercial Aircraft Benoît de Saint-Exupéry thanked STARLUX for their continued trust in Airbus, emphasizing the seamless integration of the A350F into the carrier’s modern fleet.
Key features of the A350F include the industry's largest main deck cargo door, optimized fuselage capacity, and advanced composite materials that reduce the aircraft's weight. This design makes the A350F a competitive option against existing freighters like the Boeing 777-200F and 777-300F. STARLUX Airlines' decision to invest in Airbus aircraft aligns with their growth strategy, as they currently operate an all-Airbus fleet across multiple international routes.
With this latest order, STARLUX Airlines demonstrates a strong commitment to innovation and sustainability in the aviation industry. As Airbus continues to secure orders for the A350F family worldwide, the future looks promising for this game-changing heavy lift aircraft.
